Giant White Lilyturf. This is one of the more fascinating "lily-turfs" or "monkey grasses" that we offer. The leaves are long and wide. The older a clump gets, the longer the leaves. I actually pulled a leaf from a clump in Japan and it was 43" long. Of course this is arching over, and not straight up. In mid summer to September it puts up flower spikes which are slightly taller than its leaves with a graceful arching habit which is lined with miniature lily-like white flowers along the top 8". The stems don't stand upright like Liriope. The flowers are followed by huge electric blue berries, but like the flowering stems, these also arch over into the foliage. This plant definitely does best in shade. When in full sun, the leaves tend to bleach out, but in the shade the long dark green leaves are a perfect foil for the white flowers. We had any number of landscapers who have come to pick up an order, but upon seeing this plant in flower, end up adding these to their order. Another superior trait of this plant is that the foliage stays clean through the winter and doesn't get covered in Anthracnose like Liriope does, and neither do the leaf tips burn during the winter. The fourth photo is of our friend Kasahara standing by a clump of this selection in Japan. One can easily see how tall it will get even though this one is on a slight slope.
