Kabitan Hosta. This has to be one of my top five favorite Hostas. It is listed as getting 14" high, but this probably include the bloom spike. Ours usually get in the 4-6" range with its leaves. In the spring the narrow lance-shaped leaves are a brilliant gold with a narrow green border. The more sun, the brighter the color, and it also divides much more heavily in brighter light. The pale purple flowers are on 16" scapes. This plant is perfect for massing or borders and when contrasted with black mondo grass, it is a stunner! A good gardener told me that one needs to grow this Hosta in full sun, and she commented that she loved using it as a border plant. A fellow nurserymen when seeing our crop of this plant was surprised that we were growing it, because he had lost all of his stock. I commented on its preference to be grown in the sun and he commented that he is sure that that is why he lost it. That is even more of a shocker when one realizes how hot our sun is here in zone 8 in the Deep South. Even when growing in full sun, I have never seen a burnt leaf on it.
