Crested-leaf Evergreen Ligularia. The Japanese have shows in which they exhibit this perennial in the "koten engei" fashion where they are displayed very formally in their exquisite porcelain pots. Many cultivars sell in the hundreds of dollars. As a child I grew Lettuce-leaf Begonia which this cultivar so closely resembles, but Farfugium is an evergreen, hardy perennial. Of all the Farfugium cultivars, this one has performed the best for us. It produces the same 2' stems with panicles of bright yellow daisy-like flowers in October and November. One of the best evergreen shade garden plants which really attracts attention. As others in this genus, it also makes a great container plant. Additionally, it is one of the most deer resistant genera that we grow.
