Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Ghost Spots Aspidistra. I found this selection of Aspidistra in a small specialty nursery in Japan. Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery has assisted me in correctly identifying this species and it has been determined that it is the species A. sichuanensis. It has incredibly long leaves which will stand 40-45" tall. Its petiole is approximately 20" and its leaves are approximately 20" to make its total height. The only selection that I know with longer leaves is A. sichuanensis 'Spek-tacular' with its 57" tall leaves which we have measured here. The present cultivar name that I have given it is for its surreal "ghostly" spots sprinkled liberally throughout its leaves as one can easily see from the photos. It has been very persistent with almost no tip burn during the winter.
