This subspecies has all of the attributes of Osmanthus fragrans aurantiacus, except that the flowers are a soft lemon yellow. It also has the same cold hardiness of aurantiacus. But like O. f. aurantiacus, it does not start flowering until it reaches a height of 4' to 6'. Plants in the South Carolina Botanical Garden at Clemson University, withstood minus 8°F in the freeze of January, 1985, with no apparent damage. But please be aware that with an extended period of this may be damaging.
