Hime Kansugi Carex. This rather diminutive little Carex makes a tight clump with leaves only 6 in. long, with each leaf having green and white linear stripes for its full length. It may also be seen under the names of 'Marginata' and 'Snow Line'. In late winter to early spring it will put up tan-colored flower spikes above the foliage which adds to its charm. It is happiest for us in filtered sun with uniform moisture. My preference is planting it in drifts, but it works beautifully as a small, lone accent as well. I first saw this selection in Japan and brought it back from there, but I'm quite sure that it was already in the country.
