Kinsha Korean Boxwood. This RARE selection of Korean boxwood apparently has never been offered for sale before in the West. I purchased it in Japan from a small consignment nursery some years ago, but I have only recently found the correct identity for it, thanks to the J. C. Raulston Arboretum at NCSU in Raleigh, NC. It is a splash-type variegation of various shades of cream-white and yellows. These types of variegation are usually not very stable, but with this boxwood, it is amazingly stable. This is a very slow grower and has a similar growth habit to our Buxus harlandii 'Richard'. One may see it listed as Buxus sinica var. insularis 'Kinsha' or Buxus microphylla var. koreana 'Kinsha'. The cultivar name 'Kinsha' translates to "Gold Sand" in Japanese. From one small plant we have finally been able to build up enough numbers to offer it for sale. We grow it in full sun, but we do water with overhead sprinklers on a daily basis during the summer months, but the variegation might be more dramatic with some shade. Just give it good drainage when planting. The last picture is an example of the size we are offering.
