Ajuga reptans 'Hayes' Candles'. In 2023, Hayes Jackson, super plantsman of Anniston, AL sent me a division of this Ajuga via Linda Askey, a mutual friend. He relayed to me that it had white flower spikes in the spring. I had never seen or heard of a white flowering Ajuga. I kept it in the greenhouse for a year or two until it had multiplied and we could divide it and put it outside. The spring of 2025, it started flowering with 4 inch spikes of clear white flowers. Hayes gave me the responsibility for naming it, so we are calling it 'Hayes Candles'. The flower spikes contrast beautifully the dark green foliage and it spreads quite rapidly. Now, how about you plant breeders put the white flowers on some deep burgundy foliage!
