Tama Nouveau Camellia. I found this Camellia cultivar in Japan without flowers, but bought it because of the picture tag attached. But when it flowered for me here in South Carolina, I was immediately struck by it's beauty. I showed it to many Camellia growers and hobbyists and the closest that they could come up with was 'Tama Americana.' But I sent pictures to David Parks of Camellia Forest Nursery and here is David's reply: "I agree that your Japanese plant looks a lot like 'Tama Americana' but 'Tama Americana' does not have petaloids." So David came to the conclusion that it is something that is not in the trade here in the U.S., so I have given it the cultivar name of 'Tama Nouveau'. We will stay with this name until we find otherwise. So if anyone out there has anything to add to the discussion, please let me know. The plant itself is quite outstanding with good vigor, foliage and form, and it is a very heavy bloomer as one can see by the pictures.
