Due to recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Cinnamon Leaf Viburnum. This species has the telltale leaf of V. davidii (which will not grow here) but unlike David Viburnum, this plant  thrives for us. Its species name alludes to the resemblance to the leaf of Camphor Tree, Cinnamomum camphora. It is much larger growing than V. davidii, reaching 10' or more, and it makes a dramatic textural statement in part shade or full sun. Flowers are white appearing in flat cymes of 4" across followed by blue-black berries.  I have not seen it fruit in our garden, but its dark, glossy, evergreen foliage makes it a great addition to any garden. This plant is steadily growing in acceptance by our customer base. Many of our landscape contractors come with a list of "wants" and usually leave with several of these, when most have never seen it before. It has received the Royal Horticultural Society's coveted Award of Garden Merit. It will grow in shade but becomes rather straggly and is much more attractive when grown in full sun. Initially it will grow quite rapidly putting on 18" in a season.
