Due to recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Firepower Nandina. This New Zealand cultivar takes on a dwarf mounding habit which matures at around 30" with an equal spread. It can be kept lower with a little judicious pruning. But its most distinguishing trait is its fluorescent red color after the first frost in the fall. Really one of the more strikingly colored winter plants. For best color, plant in full sun. Once established, it is a very drought tolerant plant. We have experienced no deer or rabbit problems with this plant either. This is one selection on which I have never seen flowers. I would advise to prune it back within two to three inches of the ground every 3-5 years. This lends to a much tidier appearance.
