Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Carolina Sentinel Holly. This is another one of those great plants that Dr. J. C. Raulston introduced to the trade. As I remember, he said that he had no idea of its origin. It has a very tight fastigate type growth habit with leaves only about 1-2" long and half as wide with very few spines. But it has some of the largest berries of the Ilex genus. We have never provided a pollinator, but we always get a heavy crop of berries. This is one of the finest plants that I know where one needs a narrow screen. It can also be trained into a standard and used as a container plant. I much prefer this selection to Foster Holly. On first observation, it looks like this could be a hybrid between an Ilex pernyi and Ilex cornuta.
