Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Cluster of Clouds Brocade Fatsia is a new selection in the US but an old Japanese cultivar. This plant demands quite a price in Japan where I have been told that it is a very old cultivar that had almost been lost to cultivation. I paid $650.00 for my first plant in a 6" pot. Because the Japanese do little tissue culture, these plants are slowly propagated and sold one at a time. This keeps the price quite high. In the spring the new growth emerges with golden leaves each with irregular green margins. As the leaves harden off, the gold fades to a chartreuse. It is quite vigorous for a variegated plant. It makes for a wonderful pot plant. Just be careful not to over-water it.
