Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Pink Minor Deutzia. This is an excellent smallish shrub that is about as carefree as one can get in the garden. It makes a gorgeous mound of only 2-3' high with an equal spread. In April here, it produces a plethora of star-like pale pink flowers in panicles along its pendulous branches. It blends well with mixed shrub and perennial borders. If it ever needs pruning, one should do this directly after flowering, and by cutting it more heavily, one will get a much denser plant. It does well in full sun to part shade in any average garden soil. Picture courtesy of Signature Shrubs, UK.
