Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Gold-leaf Winterhazel. This has become one of my favorite genera of ornamental plants with this selection being one of the most outstanding with its bright golden yellow flowers in the spring hanging from 2-3" racemes. It has to be one of the aristocrats among flowering shrubs. Its flowers are shortly followed with bright golden-yellow leaves which will bole you over in the shade garden. When I first saw this selection in a garden in Japan, I never would have thought that it would perform this well for us in the Deep South. But was I surprised! As the season progresses, the gold leaves will take on a chartreuse shade. There is no shade garden that should be without this plant. This is a discovery of one of our great friends and contacts in Japan, Mr. Yamaguchi. He along with Mr. Ishii were the first Japanese nurserymen to visit our nursery.
