Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Dongnon Shancha Camellia. This Chinese species from a distance closely resembles C. japonica, but upon closer observation the leaves are distinct with their pronounced venation. The flowers of this selection are a very formal double pink, somewhat resembling 'Pink Perfection' but much darker. It is one of the latest flowering Camellias around, flowering for us on into April. Hence, one usually misses late freezes here. As with all Camellias, plant shallow with some protection from afternoon sun. Even in containers we have never had any cold damage outside and unprotected. I'm not sure of the ultimate cold hardiness.
