Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Heavy Berry Japanese Beautyberry. Without a doubt, this selection made by Camellia Forest Nursery, Chapel Hill, NC, is the heaviest fruiting Beautyberry that I have ever seen. Because it bears fruit so heavily, it stays more compact than other selections of this species. Now we have another cultivar of the native Japanese Beautyberries. The leaves are slightly larger in all respects than C. dichotoma and usually have a rather pleasing yellow fall color. The flowers are a soft lavender-pink followed in the fall by the gargantuan berry clusters seen with this cultivar. Grow in full sun to part shade for best effect, and if one can't grow Callicarpa, one should give up gardening all together. Have never had any deer damage, but that doesn't mean that they won't eventually develop a taste for it.
