Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Lennon’s song Cast Iron Plant. This selection of Aspidistra was found by Robin Lennon of Central Florida Foliage in the middle of one of his fields of Aspidistra grown for the cut foliage trade. It was named by Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery. It has an irregular band of soft yellow down the middle of each leaf.  Ours has easily grown to over 30" tall. There is an old Japanese cultivar, 'Akebono,' which has a taller and wider leaf which closely resembles this cultivar which one will find throughout the Deep South. As with all Aspidistras, give it full shade with good drainage. It also works well as an indoor container plant for those who live in climates too cold to grow Aspidistra's in the landscape.
