Due to the recent discovery of the spotted lanternfly in South Carolina, California has restricted the shipment of plants from SC as well as 15 other states in which the spotted lanternfly had already been found. It was found over 100 miles from Nurseries Caroliniana, but the whole state has been put under quarantine until a treatment protocol can be worked out to resume shipments to California. Authorities hope that this can be accomplished by the end of the month.

Andre the Giant Ardisia or Coralberry. When I saw this particular cultivar of Ardisia japonica, I was overwhelmed by the size of the berries. The leaves and the berries were larger than the species. The owner of the nursery said that it was a repeat bloomer and fruiter, but this is probably if kept growing in an indoor environment. We put a pot of this in our office around Christmas, as it has the Yule Tide look with its large shiny green leaves and huge red berries. This is by far the showiest cultivar of this species in fruit. It also makes a great groundcover in the Deep South where it grows much like Pachysandra does up North, with its underground rhizomes. Or, it makes a showy house plant anywhere, but when grown indoors, keep your eyes open for red spider mites which love to get under its leaves. In the last picture, 'Andre the Giant' is the one on the left, of the different all green clones that we grow.
